Selecting a Limit Switch for Smoke Vent Fire Alarm Trigger

    Hi all,
I'm currently working on a project in New York and need some help selecting a limit switch for a custom-designed smoke vent system. The system has four actuators, and the specs require a signal to be sent to the fire alarm system as soon as the door begins to open (not when fully open).
This would likely require a switch that can detect motion from the very start of travel.
Does anyone have experience with this type of setup? What information would I need to provide to select the right switch for this application? Does the ATO have relevant product recommendations?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
For your application, we'd recommend looking into high-temperature limit switches that can provide dry contact outputs, especially considering this is a smoke vent and will operate in fire scenarios.
You'll also want to decide on the type of actuator interface – such as a roller lever, plunger, or swing arm – based on your mounting design and how the switch will be triggered.
You can check out our high-temp rated models here: https://ato.laisteel.com/limit-switch

Thanks! That’s exactly the kind of guidance I needed.
