Looking for a 12V Brushless Motor for Marine Thruster

Hi, I am a Supply Chain Manager here at a company. I am hoping to find a small motor for a system we are building. This would have to be a relatively compact motor that can ideally output 1.5+ HP with an amp draw of 180 and a 25% duty cycle at 12V. If it’s a brushless motor, we would also need a controller for it. The controller needs to be turned on via a 12V input. We need it to deliver around 88lbs of thrust. This motor will have a large aluminum heat sink and will be in contact with ambient temperature water. Ideally, it needs to be IP68 rated. The application for this motor is a thruster for the marine industry. Does ATO have a suitable motor, or do you have any recommendations?

Bainbridge, thanks for sharing the detailed requirements — your application clearly demands a waterproof motor for marine use.
    Your requirements:
    Power: 1.5hp+
    Supply Voltage: 12V
    Current: Up to 180A
    Thrust: 88lbs (-39.9kgf)
    Protection grade: IP68

And you can refer to our motor model:  ATO-BLDC-WP3000
    Power: 2hp (holding),4hp (max)
    Supply Voltage: 33.6-50.4V
    Current: 30A (holding),70A (max)
    Thrust: [email protected]
    Protection grade: IP68

The ATO-BLDC-WP3000 looks solid for your use case, Bainbridge. Just a heads-up: 180 amps at 12V is a significant load. Make sure your power system can handle those peaks, especially with marine wiring standards. Also, cooling through water contact should work well with the aluminum heat sink — sounds like you're on the right track.
